    Mumbai is filled with many vibrant beaches, having shimmering sand, sun and surf. All those who love the sun and sand awash with the breaking waters of gushing sea. Mumbai is a coastal city with Arabian Sea sprawling over the west side.  Among the hot beaches in Mumbai you can explore beaches in Juhu, Chowpatty, Madh Island, Versova, Marve and Manori.
    The host of beaches that make the city a great tourist destination year on. These beaches are like the soul of this city of dreams, where people enjoy their evenings. Some of these wonderful beaches of Mumbai are given below.



Juhu beach

 This beach is one of the most exotic beaches located 18-km north of the city centre, it's a major beach site on the shores of Arabian Sea Famous for mesmerizing Sunset and Mumbai's street food. Areas near Juhu beach are one of the posh localities of Mumbai where bungalows of the famous film personalities are located.  It's also a favorite shooting site among the filmmakers as many film shootings are also held over here. Generally it is not a very good place to swim, but it's an ideal snack joint, with various food stalls.



    It is a vendor's delight with innumerable food counters. If you would like to try out Bhelpuri or a Kulfi in Mumbai, Juhu is the place to be.

How to reach Juhu Beach

It is located 18 km north of the city center. You could get in from Vile Parle side, Santa Cruz side or from Andheri side.

Girgaum Chowpatti

    Girgaum Chowpatti is at the North end of the glittering Marine Drive. This beach is the venue where many Hindu religious ceremonies can be witnessed. At the closing of  Maharashtra's signature festival - Ganesh Chaturthi the idols of Ganesha are immersed with religious fervor and excitement. The annual thread-tying ceremony initiating young boys into the Brahmin caste. Another festival 'Nariel Purnima' is celebrated towards the end of  the monsoons.


    This is good place to strall you can unpack all your physical or mental burdens here, but it is neither suitable for swimming nor for sun bathing.

Malabar Hills, Nariman Point

Madh Island

    The best thing about Madh Island Beach is the number of unspoilt sandy beaches where you
can revel in utmost peace and calm. However, the beaches are not exactly picturesque, strong and wild Sea current make the beach treacherous and susceptible to the changing of  its area and hence it is advisable not to venture out into the Sea.  The very scenic Erangal village is one of the prominent villages in Madh Island. The villagers of Erangal are mostly traditional farmers who cultivate the adjoining farmlands. Today, Erangal is dotted with several holiday cottages and bungalows too.
Madh Island's proximity to the sea and its secluded nature has resulted in several hotels
being set up there. Many of the city's rich have bungalows here.  Many movies as well as TV serials are also filmed here.

Marve and Manori Beach

 The Marve and Manori beaches are located approximately 19 miles from Mumbai. These
attractive beaches are pleasant for bathing.You can enjoy the Sun and the Sea amidst complete silence with the music of surging waves. Marve and Manori beaches are dotted with some of the finely managed exotic private cottages built on the backdrop of the vast Arabian Sea.  There is one ancient Portuguese Church at Marve and a grove of Cashew nut trees that add to the beauty of this beach.
on the way to these lovely beaches lies the Madh Beach, another favorite picnic spot. Along with Marve and Manori Beaches there is Gorai Beach which too is equally popular among trevelers. These three locales are inhabited by Catholic natives of Mumbai.

Marine Drive

 Marine Drive is located in the central Mumbai. It has beautiful and famous promenade along the road where many of the citizens take in a breath of fresh air and view the daily sunsets. The promenade is lined with palm trees. It is also known as "Queen's Necklace" because of the dramatic line of street lamps lit up at night that surround the beach. At the northern end of Marine Drive is Chowpatty Beach. This is a popular beach famed for its Bhel puri (local fast food). Many restaurants also line this stretch of the road.

Nariman Point, Malabar Hill

Versova Beach

Versova is a beach-village in Mumbai located in the suburb of Andheri. The picturesque Versova Beach is set North of Juhu Beach. Versova Beach is among Mumbai's hot attractions. As a continuation of Juhu Beach, Versova Beach is separated by a creek. Unlike the Marine Drive, which is guarded by tetrapods, Versova beach uses massive rocks to buffer the buildings from the waves. The beach, a favourite with couples who take shelter behind the rocks for a few moments of intimacy. It is also home to Mumbai's largest fishing community - the Koils.
